Cerro de la Bufa

On September 20th Shaunie and I strapped Andre to my back, and we hiked our way up Cerro de la Bufa. Wow was that a walk! The path was incredibly steep, but we all made it! I had Andre strapped to my back up until we got to the pathway, then once on the path we let him walk on his own. He did really well until the last 20 steps or so.

Viva Mexico!

Every Thursday evening, the city symphonic wind ensemble would come to one of the plaza's and play some great music. They really are very good. After watching the band for a bit, we got hungry and stumbled on a little hole in the wall restaurant. Little did I know at the time, that I'd be spending my remaining six weeks above it!

The restaurant owners were very gracious in making a special order for Andre. Yes, he has a strange appetite sometimes! He did eat all of his meal too!

Shaunie and I got the same thing. Enchiladas Verdes (Green Enchiladas) two filled with chicken and two filled with cheese. YUMMY!! My mouth is watering just looking at it!!

A home in Mexico

A big misconception of the typical American is that everyone in Mexico is poor. On the contrary, there are plenty of Mexicans who are very wealthy, and have the homes and the things to prove it! My first host family mother had ten children, all of whom are very successful people. Kuka, the owner of this home, works in the construction business. Her sister, is an architect. Kuka invited me and the girl from Ireland into her home, I suppose to show it off to us, and allow us to see and take photos from her rooftop.

View of Cerro de la Bufa, church and mountain top.

Looking down into a property nearby, in not so good condition.

The darkened area on the first floor is the front entryway.

The back of Kuka's home. The bottom floor is like a small rec. center including a small stage area. She uses this space for the whole family once a year!
