El Centro is their downtown. The largest structures in their downtown are of the churches. The main church, which is not the oldest I might add, is referred to as the Catedral and is beautiful. The outside has three faces, each representing something different. The face of the church is made out of intricately carved stone. It's incrediable how much carving has been done and just how gorgeous it all is! The doors are huge and beautiful wood design. Little did I know on my third day that I'd be living right next to the Catedral in weeks to come!

One of the many tour buses in the city. They offer tours during the day and at night, but the night tour is much better because the landmarks and focus points of Zacatecas are all lit up at night. I never had the chance to take this tour. I hope the next time I visit Zacatecas, the boy and I will be able to ride this bus!
A pigeon on the steps of the Catedral. There are many, many pigeons in Zacatecas!
Plaza de Armas is where the city hosts many cultural arts activities in the evenings and sometimes during the day. The governor's office is located in the building behind the plaza.
Hotel Emporio is located across the street from Plaza de Armas. It's a beautifully faced hotel. I never peaked inside for a better look.
An example of the decoration they put up in celebration of their independence day, 16th of September. The "Viva Mexico" picture on this blog is another example.

A closer look at the face of the Catedral. I have many photos of it with different angles and zooms, etc. I will post them as I take this blog through the journey of our visit.
If one is facing the Catedral, this bell tower is to the right.

The same bell tower from a different angle.
The south side of the Catedral.

The cathedral is amazing with its carvings. Do you know how long it took to build it? The picutres of Andre are sweet, especially learning to play the guitar. Was he interested in doing that more than just a passing fancy?
Love,
